Once in a great while a product comes along that far exceeds expectations. We believe the BriteLite 8 is that product.
We have talked to some low vision specialists, who have said, “ No, my patients couldn’t use this, it’s too expensive, or they will use Brand X magnifier instead.” They also thought that an 8-power magnifier wouldn’t be powerful enough to aid serious vision loss. After seeing the BriteLite 8 at another physician’s office, patients started requesting it from the doctors who doubted. The BriteLite 8 works so well because it is a combination of two things: multiple LEDs and a photo quality, extra large diameter lens.
LEDs:
There are five ultra bright, white LEDs in a ring surrounding the lens. This puts the light exactly where it is needed. A good magnifier without good light is less than optimal The LEDs provide brilliant white lighting for anything in the viewing area. A switch illuminates a set of ten supplemental LEDs activated through a polarizing filter to use with glossy materials.
“You can’t read it, if there is not enough light to see it!” The BriteLite 8 provides more useable light than any competing magnifier.
Lens: The BriteLite 8 lens secret is twofold.
First:
It has an extremely large diameter for an 8x lens, 44 mm. A typical 8x lens would be 20mm or smaller. This gives the BriteLite almost five times the area of coverage!
Second:
The BriteLite lens is made of the highest quality optical glass, and is not a cheaply molded plastic lens. It has three separate glass components, which are joined together to make one vastly superior viewing device.
Focusing:
The BriteLite does not depend on the user to hold it a certain distance away from the subject to achieve focus. It has a collar around the lens that allows the user to simply place the magnifier down on the page being viewed for perfect focus! The collar is removable for viewing three-dimensional objects or other special uses. The BriteLite 8 is also easier to use and less tiring on the eyes than a "Sherlock Holmes" type of magnifier.
The BriteLite is not expensive when compared to some other magnifiers. The BriteLite was designed for dermatologists to examine skin lesions and to determine whether or not to do a biopsy. As a medical instrument it is superbly constructed to the highest quality standards. Dermatologists routinely pay $395 for this same device.
It is powered by 2 AA batteries (included). The light source is long lasting LEDs. Unlike conventional bulbs, LEDs stay white and bright throughout their lifetime with no need for replacement. Also, LED technology greatly reduces energy consumption and insures extended battery operation. Average battery life is approximately 10 hours.
The shape is ergonomically correct. You will be surprised by how comfortable it feels when you first pick it up. Because it weighs less than 8 ounces (including batteries) it can be carried easily.
Warning!
The BriteLite 8 may be too much magnifier for you! Unless you have a specific use such as examining engraving on stamps, you may find it too powerful. Low vision uses are for severe vision loss. The BriteLite has helped people with 20/200 and 20/400 vision, cataracts, glaucoma and macular degeneration as well as other severe vision problems. Optional Accessories:
10x converter lens. This is a supplemental lens that increases the BriteLite 8 from 8x to 10x. It is available separately and can used as an on and off addition or permanently mounted in place.
